Zero Barriers (ZB)

ZB is a program that focuses on building the capacity of businesses and services to be more inclusive and accessible, with the anticipated outcomes of improved participation and customer experience for people with disability and frail aged older people.

ZB believes that inclusive businesses and services embrace the value of engaging people with disability from all backgrounds and intersecting identities, for example, non-English speaking, refugee, frail aged, LGBTIQA+, as well as those who may have support persons, assistance animals and/or adaptive equipment. These businesses and providers make a concerted effort to continuously learn and adapt their services to be inclusive and accessible.

ZB’s work complements councils’ DIAP strategies.

ZB promotes the important message of access and inclusion through:

  • training
  • presentations
  • e-news
  • social media
  • website
  • mailouts
  • provision of information including fielding of enquiries from businesses, services and councils

ZB encourages businesses and services to start their inclusion journey through completing the self-assessment form.

ZB’s sources of income, to fund the initiatives, ranges from ZB member councils’ annual membership fees to Club and Council grants, sales of ZB premium resources, as well as in-kind contributions from IDC and pro-bono collaborators such as Access Link Consulting.
